Thomas B. Gilliam, Ph.D., founder and president, has developed a national reputation for his leadership and experience in assessing the physical capability of workers in North American industries. Over the past 30 years, Dr. Gilliam has met with hundreds of business, industry, and medical profession decision-makers, planning products and programs to insure a healthy work force.

He is a pioneer in introducing isokinetic physical capability assessments to numerous industrial clients in the trucking, distribution, airline, manufacturing and utility industries. Dr. Gilliam's IPCS programs are objective, standardized, highly effective, defensible, and safe.

Physically demanding jobs require major muscle groups (i.e. shoulders and legs) to work in a synchronous and integrated manner. When these muscle groups are no longer in synch with each other, injury occurs. The physical capability and functionality of these muscle groups, both individually and collectively, are accurately determined by IPCS and compared to the physical demands of the job.

The IPCS isokinetic Knee-Shoulder assessment has been shown to be extremely effective in reducing overexertion injuries to knees, shoulders, and backs. This is possible because of the cabling effect the shoulders and lower extremities have on the low back. An isokinetic evaluation is the safest method of assessment because it is speed controlled, not weight controlled.

With each movement that is measured, the isokinetic machine generates a force curve or picture, which provides the most objective data. The force curve is put through the IPCS interpretative process to determine whether the movement is in or out of synch. The major muscle groups assessed by IPCS are critical to safely completing the essential functions of a physically demanding job. The IPCS interpretative process considers these major muscle groups both individually and collectively relative to the body safely performing the job.

IPCS correctly matches the physical capability of the worker to the physical demands of the job. The force curve analysis and interpretation are precise and accurate. The results are driven by data.
